Quick Tips to Update your Patio

Jun 01, 2021

Does your patio need a fresh look this summer? The time for grilling and outdoor parties is here, so now is the best time to get started on those outdoor home projects.

Here are six quick and affordable ways to transform your patio into the perfect entertaining space:

  1. Create a comfy and inviting seating area that your guests will love. You do not have to spend a lot of money on brand-new furniture. Spruce up your existing furniture by adding cozy blankets, throws, and outdoor accent pillows. Find unique stools and side tables to create interest. Don’t be scared to mix-and-match furniture for a truly one-of-a-kind look.
  2. Incorporate your favorite accent color for a fresh, modern look. Gone are the days of safe beige and browns – go bold with color. Tie in your accent color with table décor, pillows, and rugs. You may even consider painting your patio door for instant curb appeal.
  3. Hang string lights around your outdoor living space to create a magical, cozy atmosphere. Lights can be stretched across the top of the patio, along a balcony railing, around a tree trunk, or left to cascade down from branches.
  4. Use tile, stone, or pavers on the floor of your patio to make it look like a million bucks. If updating the flooring is not in your budget, use an outdoor rug with a fun geometric pattern or colorful accent to make your outdoor space feel like an extension of your home. Outdoor rugs are generally much cheaper than indoor rugs, are weather-resistant, and come in a variety of styles and colors.
  5. Add a fire pit to your patio area to create an instant focal point and improve ambience. There is nothing better than being able to gather around a warm fire on a cold night to spend time together and make s’mores. Wood fire pits are easy to build yourself, and gas fire pits can be used for added convenience.
  6. Use flowers and other plants to add life to your patio area. Incorporate planters of various sizes with unique designs and place them in clusters all over your outdoor space. Landscaping around the edges of your flooring will also help to soften hard patio lines.

Hopefully these easy and affordable tips will give you inspiration and equip you with new ideas to update your patio area. Your local Co-op has a large selection of patio décor, fire pits, planters, outdoor lights, and so much more. Find the nearest location here.

Vegetable gardening has historically had its ups and downs. As far back as the pilgrims, nearly everybody was a gardener. Because people grew food to survive, they developed their own gardening skills out of necessity. During World War II, Americans were encouraged to grow much of their own food in “victory gardens” to help with the expensive war effort. But as more efficient methods of growing larger amounts of food were developed, fewer people raised their own vegetables.
