Choose the Right Fly Control
to Fit Your Program

Summer fly season can take a serious toll on your cattle and your bottom line. Horn flies alone can consume up to a gallon of blood per animal over a 135-day season, contributing to stress, reduced weight gain, and disease spread like pinkeye. The good news? You can fight back with proven feed-through fly control solutions. Whether you choose mineral or block options, our products with Altosid® IGR, ClariFly®, or CTC are designed to interrupt the fly life cycle and protect your herd. Start early, stay consistent, and see the difference fly control can make in your cattle’s performance this summer. The team at Co-op has you covered!

UNDERSTANDING ACTIVE INGREDIENTS

Altosid® IGR (Methoprene)

Altosid® IGR is a feed-through insect growth regulator that targets horn flies, one of the most economically damaging pests for pasture cattle. When consumed, it passes through the animal and into the manure, where it disrupts the horn fly life cycle by preventing larvae from developing into biting adults. In a 90-day trial, 96% of producers reported improved horn fly control, and over 90% expressed satisfaction with the results. Stocker cattle fed Altosid® IGR also showed a 15.8% increase in average daily gain, demonstrating both health and performance benefits.

Chlortetracycline (CTC)

CTC is an antibiotic used in certain mineral products to support general animal health and help reduce infections commonly associated with fly activity, such as pinkeye. Products that combine CTC with (S)-Methoprene offer dual-action protection. CTC helps manage bacterial infections while methoprene works in the manure to stop horn fly development. This combination provides continuous support during fly season, especially in high-stress conditions or when disease pressure is elevated.

ClariFly® Larvicide

ClariFly® is a feed-through larvicide designed for use in both pasture and feedlot settings as part of an integrated pest management (IPM) program. It works by disrupting the development of multiple fly species including house flies, stable flies, face flies, and horn flies in manure. In a controlled 10-day study, cattle treated with ClariFly® showed an average of 96.7% reduction in house fly emergence from manure compared to untreated cattle. It is most effective when paired with proper planning, consistent feeding, and good sanitation practices.
