SUMMARY:
The Payroll/Accounting Assistant is responsible for processing payroll accurately, ensuring compliance with company policies and federal, state, and local regulations. This role involves reviewing employee records, computing pay, managing deductions, and preparing required government reports such as W-2s and Form 941. The position also supports employee benefit administration, tracks time off, and provides assistance to employees with payroll-related questions. Success in this role requires strong attention to detail, confidentiality, proficiency in payroll software and Microsoft Office, and the ability to manage multiple priorities while delivering excellent customer service
QUALIFICATIONS:
- Knowledge of IRS and various state regulations regarding payroll and accounting reconciliations/auditing techniques
- Three to five years related payroll work experience
- Must be trustworthy and able to adhere to strict confidentiality
- Must be proficient in the use of Microsoft Office software and using a calculator, ten key by touch
- Possess high math aptitude with excellent attention to detail and accuracy
- Perform well independently with little supervision while also integrating well into a team environment
- Utilize time management skills, working under the pressure of deadlines
- Possess strong multi-tasking skills with the ability to prioritize tasks
- Demonstrate clear written and verbal communication skills
ESSENTIAL JOB FUNCTIONS:
Essential Duties and Responsibilities include the following. Other duties may be assigned.
- Reviews personnel records to determine names, rates of pay, and occupations of newly hired workers, and changes in wage rates and occupations of employees on payroll
- Must be or become proficient in the use of Merchant and Vanguard software
- Responsible for maintaining confidentiality
- Responsible for tracking absentees such at PTO, Sick Days and verifying and filing documentation
- Computation of pay according to company policy
- Responsible for compilation and preparation of other payroll data such as child support, pension, and insurance payments
- Reviews payroll deductions
- Follows company policies and government regulations affecting payroll procedures
- Prepare required government reports
- Administer various policies as they relate to employee benefits and time
- Ensure accurate computing, withholding and deductions associated with net pay
- Audits and maintain forms associated with federal state and local authorities, such as Form 941, state and local reports, W-2's, etc. to ensure proper recording and reporting
- Ensure payroll records are updated and secured
- Responsible for answering employee questions and troubleshooting issues
- Responsible for providing outstanding customer service to all TFC employees, Member Cooperatives and outside contacts
