Staying productive while social distancing

Mar 23, 2020

Dealing with the Coronavirus has been scary, to say the least. If you’re like the majority of us, you may be spending a lot more time at home these days.  And it’s only a matter of time before cabin fever sets in. Here are some ways to keep you sane during self-quarantine or social distancing.

  1. Get ahead.
Don’t take this time as a vacation but as “gifted” time. Use the time you’d normally spend commuting to be productive and plan. Plan the flowers in your garden, get your breeding records in check, or look at EPDs of livestock you want to buy next. For all of those things you usually put off until the last minute, take this opportunity to do them! You will thank yourself when this time is up.

  1. Do a little every day.
Improve yourself, your home, or your farm each day. Pick a cabinet to clean out because you’ve avoided it for three years. Organize your gardening shed, brush your dog, or clean behind the dryer. All these things can be so easily neglected, but use this time to be productive. It will help you feel like you’re getting things done because you are!

  1. Stay Busy.
It is so easy to get up, roll out of bed, and grab the laptop to work from home or bed. However, this can create a bad habit that can be hard to break once everyone goes back to work. Each day get up at your normal time, clean up, and find something to do. If you usually have an hour commute, take an hour to catch up on laundry or put food in the crockpot. Take a chance to get your mental health in check by sitting on the back porch with a cup of coffee. Read a book, clean your kitchen, or organize your home office.

We hope you and your family stay safe and healthy during this pandemic. It can be easy to get into unproductive habits while home for so long. We hope these three tips encourage you to get up, get caught up, and be productive during this extra time.
