Shooting Hunger fundraiser expands to West Tennessee

West Tennessee marksmen will soon have the opportunity to fight hunger. The Shooting Hunger Sporting Clays Fun Shoot is expanding this year with two events — the first slated for Thursday, June 8, at Huntingdon’s Carroll County Shooting Complex. The annual fall event will be Thursday, Sept. 28 at the Nashville Gun Club.

The Shooting Hunger fundraiser was created through the combined efforts of Tennessee Farmers Cooperative, Farm Bureau, and Farm Credit Mid-America to benefit Second Harvest Food Bank of Middle Tennessee and Mid-South Food Bank. In just two annual events, Shooting Hunger has raised enough money to provide 228,000 meals for hungry Tennesseans.

“There has been an overwhelming interest from across the state by folks wanting to help out with this cause,” says Keith Harrison, TFC’s communications and marketing manager. “We’re looking forward to a great turnout in West Tennessee and in Nashville, with a goal of raising enough money in 2017 to provide 300,000 meals.”

Second Harvest relies on donations and fundraisers such as the Sporting Clays Fun Shoot to fulfill its mission of serving hungry families through 490 partner agencies in a 46-county area in Middle and West Tennessee. Last year, Second Harvest distributed more than 31 million pounds of food, the equivalent of more than 26 million meals.
