Farmers can get help at social media workshops
How farming operations and businesses can make the most of today’s social media opportunities will be stressed at three day-long workshops offered this month by the University of Tennessee Extension’s Center for Profitable Agriculture (CPA) at locations in East, Middle, and West Tennessee.
Here’s the schedule: Tuesday, Aug. 21, UT Extension Eastern Region Office in Knoxville; Wednesday, Aug. 22, Lane Agri-Park in Murfreesboro; and Thursday, Aug. 23, West Tennessee Research and Education Center in Jackson.
Titled “Tools and Strategies to Upgrade Your Social Media Impact,” each workshop will have the same agenda and be conducted by Penn State University social media experts Sarah Cornelisse and Kathy Kelley.
“The workshop is geared toward direct farm marketers and agritourism operators, but the concepts presented could apply to any business or organization,” says Megan Bruch, marketing specialist with CPA, which is sponsoring the event along with the Tennessee Department of Agriculture.
Hours are 9 a.m. to 4 p.m. local time. Registration is at 9:30 a.m., and refreshments and lunch will be provided. Cost is $20 per person if registered by Aug. 15 or $25 after that.
Bruch, who stresses that attendees should have basic knowledge of social media, said the workshop will help participants develop a strategy, generate high-quality content, manage an online reputation, manage multiple social media accounts, reach mobile customers, accept payments using mobile devices, and explore geolocation apps.
Additional information, including a registration form, is available at http://cpa.utk.edu or by calling 931-486-2777.
