Whether you’re a small- or large-scale beef cattle producer in Tennessee, you’ll want to be sure to attend the 2011 Co-op Knows Beef Bonanza, which will be held on Tuesday, Aug. 23, from 9 a.m. to 8 p.m. at the Tennessee Miller Coliseum in Murfreesboro. The event is free of charge.

Patterned after the highly successful Co-op Knows Beef Bonanza that took place in East Tennessee in 2009, this year’s edition of the event will include educational opportunities as well as presentations on the latest equipment/technology from Tennessee Farmers Cooperative and other companies. Vendors of a wide variety of livestock-related products and services will be on hand with displays and samples.

“Our goal is to present a statewide event for Co-op’s beef customers that focuses on ways to help them achieve continued success in their respective operations,” says Keith Harrison, TFC’s marketing, advertising, and promotions coordinator. “More than 600 producers attened the Beef Bonanza when it was in East Tennessee, and our goal this year is to attract more than 1,000. We have a full day of activities planned, and we are proud to be bringing this event back to our Tennessee beef producers and showcase Co-op’s unmatched product knowledge and customer service.”

The educational program agenda for the event, which will also include lunch and dinner as well as networking, fellowship, and customer appreciation opportunities, is as follows:

9:30-10:15 a.m. and 2:30-3:15 p.m. — Managing the Cow Herd to Maximize Reproductive Efficiency, Dr. Justin Rhinehart, University of Tennessee

10:30-11:15 a.m. and 3:30-4:15 p.m. — Bull and Cow Reproduction, Dr. Kevin Cox, TFC

12:30-1:15 p.m. and 4:30-5:15 p.m. — Managing Nutrition for Maximum Reproduction, Dr. Gary Bates, UT, and Royce Towns, TFC

1:30-2:15 p.m. and 6:45-7:30 p.m. — Injection Site Management, Dr. Jody Wade, Boehringer Ingelheim; Healthy Beef Trends, Valerie Bass, Tennessee Beef Council

Lunch will be served from 11:30 to 12:30, and dinner will be available from 5:30 to 6:30. Many Co-ops will be providing bus or van transportation to bring farmers to the event.

Those interested in attending this year’s Co-op Knows Beef Bonanza should contact their local Co-op for registration materials and an admission ticket, which, when turned in at the event, will be immediately redeemed for a special Co-op Knows Beef Bonanza cap.
