Soil Testing
Growers who follow soil test recommendations can expect higher fertilizer efficiency, more balanced nutrient levels for
crops, and optimum benefits from their lime and fertilizer investments. Soil testing should be the first step in planning a sound fertilization
program. With a soil test, the guesswork of knowing how much lime and fertilizer to apply is eliminated. A soil test can identify yield-robbing fertility
problems.
Lime and pH
One of the most important steps to a successful crop management program is to adjust the soil pH (acidity) of the soil to an optimum level.
A low pH limits the uptake of nutrients found in the soil and causes additional applications of fertilizer to not work efficiently. A low
pH can be corrected with the addition of ag lime to the soil.
